The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies have published the 70th issue of Siyasat Arabiya, a bimonthly peer-reviewed journal of political science and international relations. This special issue, titled "Elections in the Arab World: Understanding Behaviour and Interpreting Results," opens with an introduction by the editor, Abdelkarim Amengay, and includes several contributions: Mark Tessler's article titled "Does Voting in Elections Strengthen Democratic Political Culture? Evidence from Survey Research in Six Arab Countries"; Abdelkarim Amengay and Yasmine Lahnin's "Individual Motives for Voter Turnout in the Arab World: What Impact Does the Evaluation of the Political System's Democratic Level Have?"; Faisal H Mahbob's "The Electoral System and Political Crisis in Tunisia (2011–2021): Could the Electoral Threshold Have Created Stable Governments?"; and Ali Bin Musa's "The 2012 General National Congress Elections in Libya: An Analysis of Electoral Dynamics and Implications." The translation section includes the article "Elections Under Authoritarianism" by Jennifer Gandhi and Ellen Lust-Okar, translated by Hassane Hjij. The issue also documents key developments in the democratic transition in the Arab world and Palestine during the period from 1 July to 31 August 2024. It further features Khadija Oubedda's review of Gail J Buttorf's "Authoritarian Elections and Opposition Groups in the Arab World," and Brahim Chlaih's review of "Legislative and Presidential Elections in Tunisia 2019: Politics, Electoral Behaviors and Elite Activism," edited by Mehdi Mabrouk.
